Privacy Policy
BrewScout helps you find coffee shops that are good places to work. This policy explains what the app collects, why, and what control you have over it. We do not sell your data, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Information we collect
Location
With your permission, BrewScout uses your device's location to show cafés near you and to sort results by distance. Location is used while you are using the app. If you deny location access, you can still search for cafés by moving the map manually.
Account information
You can browse BrewScout without an account. If you sign in — via Sign in with Apple or Google — we receive your email address and a unique account identifier so we can attribute your reviews, photos, and favorites to you. If you use Sign in with Apple's private relay, we only ever see the relay address.
Content you submit
Reviews, ratings (WiFi, outlets, noise, seating), photos, and favorites you create are stored so they can be shown to you and, where you submit them publicly, to other users. Public reviews and photos are visible to anyone using the app.
Usage and diagnostic data
We use Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring) to understand which features are used, to diagnose crashes, and to find slow requests. This includes app events such as searches performed, crash reports, performance traces, device model, operating system version, and app-generated device identifiers. It is used to keep the app working, not to build advertising profiles.
How we use your information
- To show you relevant nearby cafés and search results.
- To store and display your reviews, ratings, photos, and favorites.
- To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- To diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and improve performance.
- To respond when you contact support.
Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share data only with service providers who process it on our behalf:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, file storage, analytics, crash reporting, and performance monitoring.
- Google Maps Platform — map rendering and place data.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and MapKit café lookup.
We may also disclose information where required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
Tracking
BrewScout does not track you across apps and websites owned by other companies, and does not use the App Tracking Transparency identifier (IDFA) for advertising.
Data retention
Account data and content you submit are retained while your account is active. Diagnostic and analytics data are retained on Firebase's standard retention schedules. When you delete your account, we delete your account record and disassociate or remove your submitted content.
Your choices
- Location — revoke at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services.
- Your content — edit or delete your reviews and photos from within the app.
- Your account — delete your account in the app's settings, or email us and we will do it for you.
- Access or export — email us and we will provide a copy of the data associated with your account.
Children
BrewScout is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
